Friday Instagram Round-Up 7

I am so ready for the weekend, how about you?  Shawn and I got a Blu-ray/DVD/Streaming Netflix device for our birthdays, so this past week has been a blur of work, cooking and Arrested Development episodes (SOOOO good).  Plus, a little time for Instagram.

Working from home because of the BART strike.  Nice to final put that office to use after a year.

Leftovers from dinner the night before resulted in this breakfast delight: herb and mashed potato omelette.

Emily and I threw a girl’s cocktail party with small bites; super fun!

Quick dinner: dry rubbed roasted pork, peach and basil yogurt wrap.  So, so good.

Friday Instagram Round-Up 6

Oh, Friday. You know what that means…Instagram round-up! And weekend. Oh, I love me the weekend. The weather has been so beautiful lately here, I can’t wait to get out in the sunshine. Our yard is definitely in need of some de-winterizing (i.e., get rid off all the brown), but we already have blossoms on the plum tree and jasmine bushes. The jasmine smell in the morning is enchanting; great way to wake up. I also have a Prohibition-themed birthday party for some friends this weekend… Post to follow next week!

In the meantime, let’s get to Instagramming, shall we?

Celeriac and artichoke heart soup with some crusty bread. Perfect winter to spring transition dinner.

Working on my presentation: grilled chicken, sautéed Brussel sprouts on a baked polenta cake.

Discovered in my make-up case: Jane brand cosmetics circa 1998. Hello my name is Jillian and I’m a hoarder.

Reinventing the wheel, or rather, the rice bowl; broiled salmon and steamed asparagus over rainbow quinoa.

Dinner at The Vine, a wine & tapas bar in San Leandro. Those beans are ridic.

Avocado-chocolate mousse, recipe courtesy of A Cozy Kitchen. Super creamy and rich. You must make this.

The little things in life: opening up my dictionary at work to the EXACT page I needed. I may have squealed in excitement.

Fried brown rice, roasted pork tenderloin and soft boiled egg yolk. Delish.

Friday Instagram Round-Up 5

Hello! So, I missed last week’s round-up. But, I only had a couple of photos (what with a week of late work nights and eating out), so I thought I would roll last week’s into this week’s. So here we go!

I am currently trying to grow out a pixie cut while trying to avoid that whole Justin Beiber/mullet look. I find dark red lipstick helps.

Sunday movie night: Bernie with Jack Black and curried kobucha squash and quinoa and kale soup.

Easy Dinner 1: chicken and sweet pepper stir fry over rice.

Easy Dinner, The Sequel: penne and pork tenderloin in tomato sauce.

Saturday night, couple’s dinner with Kat and Kris: veggies with hollandaise.

Me. Instagramming Kat. Instagramming dinner. Meta.

Pork and cucumber meatballs with yogurt sauce. The best.

And, of course, boeuf bourguignon to finish us out.

Have a great weekend friends!

Friday Instagram Round-Up 4

Ahh, Friday. This week was jam-packed at work, and I just didn’t get a chance to post what I wanted to. Hopefully next week will slow down and I can get some new recipes to you guys. In the meantime…

Lemon-tuna roll at Akiko Sushi before seeing Anything Goes with my love.

Thrift store mirror for our entry hall. Wait til you see it refinished!

Yes, there was pre-Superbowl pretzel making this weekend.

Finished pretzel twists, ready for a cheddar-ale dip.

Saturday night we had my parents over for homemade “Nick the Greek” and roasted red pepper pizza…

…And frozen chocolate mousse.

Early breakfast Sunday morning at Cafe Jolie in Alameda.

White bean and kale soup to help come down off our Superbowl pig-out.

Friday Instagram Round-Up 3

Hi all! It’s Friday!

Tonight, Shawn and I are going to go see Anything Goes. I’m stoked; such a fun show. He’s never seen it before, but I think he will enjoy all of the 30’s era shenanigans and hijinks. And Cole Porter music of course; I loves him.

This week on Instagram has been a combination of food and Young House Love excitement. I’ve been using this app more and more, and having more and more fun not only posting my own photos, but seeing daily life through my friend’s lenses. Instagram definitely is not, as the show 2 Broke Girls would say, “Twitter for people who can’t read”. It’s just good fun; no need to look to deeply into it.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Saturday morning trip to the Grand Lake/Lake Merritt Farmer’s Market in Oakland yielded some delicious root veggies and leafy greens, as well as a cheddar-buttermilk biscuit.

Lunch with Emily and her friend Abigail at Sideboard in Danville, before beginning our Macklemore Thrift Shop Challenge.

Babushka kitten.

Abigail photobombing John and Sherry.

A post-Young House Love book signing snack at La Boulange.

4-cheese mac n’ cheese with English peas and pancetta on a cozy Sunday night in.

Our Great Dane Kysse likes to sit on the couch and watch TV. She thinks she’s people.

Blood-orange and chicken salad. Yummers.

Working lunch at Sweet Woodruff in San Francisco. Love watching them making pasta and gnocchi.

Creamy chicken and blueberry salad stuffed in a roasted acorn squash. It looks so fancy and yet could not be easier to make.

Simple vegetarian dinner: Spiced chickpeas and roasted red peppers over quinoa. Hearty and filling.

Young House Love Book Signing

This weekend, Emily, her friend Abigail and I went to John and Sherry’s booksigning at the Palo Alto West Elm.  Needless to say, we were more than a little stoked.

Yes, some photobombing did take place

In preparation for the signing, we did the Macklemore Thrift Shop Challenge.  We tried on huge fur coats, a few odd hats and one hideously fabulous neon pink housecoat.  At the end though, we came away with 3 matching white ceramic mugs for the YHL crew to sign.  Sherry seemed very excited about our mugs, mostly that we had picked them up at a thrift store since they could have easily fit in amongst all of the great West Elm decor.

Books and mugs signed, photo taken, done.  All in all it was pretty exciting for 3 huge YHL fans such as ourselves.  They were the first blog I started following, and part of what really got me interested in starting this little ol’ blog.  Thanks for the inspiration guys!

YHL book and mug

The book and mug in their official home, in the office at our house.  We had a great time, acting like giddy teenage girls meeting our “celebrities”.  They were just a lovely and funny as I imagined they would be (John even asked if we had found a “big ass coat” which made us all giggle).  Great day meeting my blogging idols.  Thanks John & Sherry!  THG

Friday Instagram Round-Up 2

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you, but this weekend could not have come soon enough! Emily and I will be heading down to Palo Alto this weekend for the YHL book signing. I am more excited than I care to admit. Let’s just say there’s been lots of tiny dance moves involved 😉

This has been a week of unending deadlines at work, hence no regular post this week. BUT, I do have some Instagram photos of deliciousness to share, and a just for fun post too. Have a great weekend!

Crab risotto on grapefruit and arugula salad. Sounds fancy; couldn’t be easier to make.

My grandpa got us Omaha filet mignons for Christmas. Best preparation? Medium-rare with roasted potatoes and brussel sprouts. Classic.

This is what happens when there’s nothing good on before Downton Abbey. Amateur nail art.

Curried salmon salad with cucumber, celery and potatoes. Yummers!

Friday Instagram Round-Up

So, in the new year, one of my goals was to post more “for fun” posts in addition to the recipes. So, in that vein, I am introducing “Friday Instagram Round-Ups”.

I cook about 5 nights a week, as well as baking on the weekend. But because of work and late nights and general exhaustion, I definitely don’t photograph and map out recipes for everything I cook. Plus, a lot of what I make us act as “try-outs” before cooking to present on the blog (some stuff occasionally misses the mark and needs some tweaking). BUT, I know a lot of you are interested in seeing what we eat on a regular basis. I’ve started posting most of our meals each week on Instagram for anyone who follows to see. ( I’m @thehumblegourmet. Come find me!)
So, without further ado, let me introduce the first “Friday Instagram Round-Up.”

Sunday morning breakfast of red currant scones with orange-vanilla glaze. Delish.

Having both been sick for the past, oh, MONTH, we warmed our bones with this sunchoke and artichoke heart soup, sprinkled with pancetta and crispy sunchoke chips and cheesy bread. I felt better.

One of our staple meals, zesty chicken with white bean stew. Simple and effective and hearty.
